PLSKS

OUR HISTORY

PLSKS (Prottasha Lalmonirhat Samaj Kallyan Sangstha) was established in the year 2001 as a nonprofit, nonpolitical and nongovernment voluntary development organization in the Northern part of Bangladesh with the initiative of some local dedicated people who are connective with various social service activities. PLSKS formally starts its activity on December 09, 2001after getting registration from Department of Social Welfare, GoB. However PLSKS was registered by NGO Affairs Bureau on March 01, 2010. From the very beginning, PLSKS works with the underprivileged children providing quality education; instigates to develop the socio-economic condition of the poor and organize them to be involved in various income generating activities by initiating training on sewing, embroidery, fashion bag making, beautification etc. In addition, PLSKS is committed to establish women and child rights; raise voice against domestic violence, health, cleanliness and sanitation. PLSKS not only provides humanitarian support to the disaster victims but also helps build resilience to disaster and climate change vulnerability with a focus on adaptation. PLSKS strives to diminish health hazards including Dengue, Covid-19, Child Mortality, Maternal Mortality and HIV/AIDS etc.

Why does PLSKS work for the children? From the moment children are born in poor families or in the slums, they face daily hardship of malnutrition, lack of healthcare and education. They do not get education to prepare them for primary school and to be competitive. Very often they are burdened with responsibilities from an early age for their own survival as well as the survival of their families or the people they are living with. PLSKS tries to begin the lives of these children with quality preschool education. Preschool learning motivates and prepares children to attend primary school, provides parents with information about new approaches to education and improves children’s enrollment, retention in schools and their academic performance. PLSKS also ensures a safe and protected learning environment for children with disabilities who are mostly maltreated by the society. Besides PLSKS provides coaching to primary school going children who are not capable of hiring private tutors at home. At present PLSKS is running 06 (Six) learning centers at Bihary Camp areas in Parbotipur, Dinajpur where nearly 900 children are receiving quality education. PLSKS aims to establish more learning centers with digitally sound devices in targeted areas all over Bangladesh where the children will receive world class education that will help them meet the global challenges to come.

As of June 2023, PLSKS has made a significant contribution in providing education for 10,000 poor children, capacity development training for 5,000 marginalized women, food and nutrition for 5000 people, support & rehabilitation for 6000 disaster victims and climate change vulnerable and employment for about 100 people. PLSKS plans a great deal of activities to create self-employment by providing long term technical training of unemployed people. So far 100 women have completed training in various trades and are trying to become self-reliant in their respective fields. Of them 80 have got the opportunity to be self-employed in respective fields and thus contributing to their family income. As a nongovernment organization PLSKS has come to a long way since its humble beginning in 2001. However, PLSKS is ready to go further ways keeping in mind the tender faces of our children and children with disabilities with a view to achieving prosperity, happiness and dignity for all.
